Born from Rob and Rai's passion for both tabletop gaming and improvised comedy and their combined experience of creating and facilitating gaming experiences for both small and large groups, RD Squared will offer boxed tabletop games and experiential gaming events.

We currently have five concepts in the pipeline and we are busily working on the mechanics of these, in addition to developing low-fi prototypes. We are actively looking for artists and web app developers to collaborate with and as such are seeking funding for our prototype development and to enable us to reach a wider market with our marketing and play testing.

Rai

Rai has loved games since she was old enough to roll a dice. However being an only child, living in an isolated area with busy parents, she rarely had chance to play. She remembers each glorious occasion where a board game was broken out and lived for powercuts where her parents would be forced to play Monopoly with her.

Since discovering one of the first ‘new generation’ board games, Catan in 2005, Rai has avidly collected interesting games and since meeting her husband and both developing a Magic the Gathering habit in 2012, their combined collection and love of gaming (and each other!) has only grown.

Rai also enjoys solo gaming, which is surprising given the amount of time she spent playing 4 player board games against herself as a child.

Her favourite game changes frequently, but she would never turn down an opportunity to play Ticket to Ride.

Rob

Rob too has loved games since childhood. As well as paper games of battleships against his brother either side of his sister's car seat he also recently found a few game prototypes made while still at primary school.

Later he would spend hours on MSN Messenger at an early stage in his relationship with his future wife playing Reversi or Backgammon before she became too good to beat.

Since 2015 he's made an annual Christmas Challenge for his competetive family. Dad, siblings and partners going through elaborate treasure hunts, recreations of game shows including a full filmed and edited Taskmaster, an escape-room-in-a-box and a printed board game version of an earlier challenge.

His modern game collection started more recently with a gifted copy of Terraforming Mars and in the last few years the collection has grown rapidly with the arrival of a number of like-minded friends and weekly game nights.

His most favoured games include Space Base, Terraforming Mars, Cascadia, Deep Sea Adventure and Funemployed.

Together

Rob and Rai are both part of Leamprov, an improvised comedy troupe based in Leamington Spa. Whilst they loosely met during workshops and rehearsals, they and their spouses became good friends when Rai gatecrashed one of Rob’s regular weekly games nights and then the four of them co-designed and facilitated a scavenger hunt experience for the troupe. They quickly established a mutual desire to develop boardgames and experiential gaming in a professional capacity and thus RD Squared (RD²) was established.
